BIG NEWS for students from the EU under JAA rules:

Flight training conducted with Harv's Air can be credited toward your JAA PPL licence!!

As stated in the LASORS Section C1.2 under the credits section.
Any previous flying experience in single
engine-piston (Land) aeroplanes gained during an
incomplete course of training towards an ICAO
PPL(A) may be counted towards the requirements
for the grant of a JAR-FCL PPL(A). Applicants will
be required to obtain copies of their training
records from their training provider, together with
confirmation from them that the training completed
was towards the grant of an ICAO PPL(A).
Applicants will be required to attend a registered
facility or approved FTO and provide evidence of
their previous training to the Chief Flying
Instructor. The CFI will then establish a course of
training taking into account previous experience to
ensure that all the specific requirements of C1.2
have been met.

We now have a partnership program to carry students from zero all the way to the JAR-FCL frozen ATPL!! Check out JAA training program with Triple A Flying!!

UK students:
We are now approved for Career Development Loans! We are learning provider number "11430".

Frequently asked questions in regards to the JAA system and Harv's Air.

What does JAA mean?
JAA stands for Joint Aviation Authority of Europe. Based in the Netherlands, they are the Civil Aviation Government Authority for the Europe Union. Supposedly the JAA was going to "unite" the Civil Aviation Government Authority's of Europe, however that has not happened. There now are different "flavors" of JAA system, including the UK CAA, the French system, ect. If you are not going to fly in Europe stop reading right now.

Do you have JAA approval? Are you a JAA - FTO?
Not yet, but we're working on it! A time frame? Judging by the progress thus far, we're are looking at months and months yet. :-( This does not mean we can't help you right now or save you money/time. Please keep reading.

I have a ICAO ATPL, and need a JAA ATPL. Or I have a ICAO CPL and need a JAA CPL. What must I do?

If I obtain a Canadian Private Pilot Licence and I want a  JAA PPL, what must be done to convert the licence?
If you have less then 100 hrs total flight time:
1. Attain a Class 2 JAA Medical Certificate (click here for a list of CAA approved doctors)
2. Pass ALL 7 JAA Private Pilots Theory exams
3. Pass the Radio Telephony operators practical test
4. Pass the PPL Skills (flight) test (with training as required to learn the skills to do this)

If you have more than 100 hrs total flight time:
1. Attain a Class 2 JAA Medical Certificate (click here for a list of CAA approved doctors)
2. Pass the Human Performance & limitations, Airlaw, and Radio Telephony JAA Private Pilots Theory exams
3. Pass the Radio Telephony operators practical test
4. Pass the PPL Skills (flight) test (with training as required to learn the skills to do this)

Considering that it costs around $7000-$8000 Canadian dollars (£2,500 to £2,900 or €3,728.50 to €4,349.96) to obtain a Private Pilot Licence in Canada. Even with the cost of transportation to Winnipeg from the UK (£300 - £400 or €438 to €585 ), on airport accommodations (£125/month or €201/month ), and living in Canada (£1.00 gets you 2.45 Canadian dollars or €1 gets $1.60) Your PPL will cost you LESS then HALF of what it cost in the UK with NO student visa hassles like the US.

What's the best way to train for a JAA CPL or frozen ATPL with your company without having to repeat any training or extra flights test to convert back into a JAA CPL or frozen ATPL?
Our partnership with Triple A Flying is a fantastic way to obtain a JAA frozen ATPL.

I am a citizen of _____ (any country in the European Union), do I need a student visa to flight train in Canada?
No! For a course of less then 6 months no student visa is required. Thus you can start any time with only a 2 week notice. Just fill out our online application. This includes ALL of the courses.

I am a citizen of _____ (any country in the European Union), do I need a student visa to "time build" in Canada? No finger printing, no security hassles just start when you want to.
No! For a course of less then 6 months no student visa is required.

How long is a Canadian pilot licence valid?
A Canadian licence is valid for as long as your medical is current. Under 40 years of age a Private medical is good for 5 years, over 40 valid for 2 years. In order to carry passengers you must conduct 5 takeoff and landings every 6 months.

Can I fly in the UK on my Canadian PPL?
Yes you can! If you mean in a Canadian registered aircraft (C-GXXX), then ALL your privileges are valid. If, more likely, you mean in a UK 'G' registered aircraft, then providing your licence would be valid for the same flight if you were in Canada and not the UK (eg: you intend to fly a 'type' you are qualified for, the licence has not expired, your medical is valid, etc etc), then it is automatically valid for general UK flying - the official line in the CAA Air Navigation Order is that: "you can exercise the private privileges of your licence in 'G' registered aircraft unless those privileges include flying IFR in controlled airspace, in which case that is excluded, as is flying for any reward". If you want that in 'official-speak', at the time of writing there is an answer on our UK CAA site: click here.

This does not mean that a flight school or aircraft rental will just let you leap into an aircraft - all renters will want to assess your flying ability where-ever you learned or whatever licence you have -it's standard practice and it is their insurance excess they are risking by renting to you.

Can I fly in Europe on my Canadian PPL?
I'm not sure yet. The safest bet is no, you must convert to that countries licence. We are researching this topic.

Who are the JAA member States?
Austria - Belgium - Czech Republic - Cyprus - Denmark - Finland - France - Germany - Greece - Hungary - Iceland - Ireland - Italy - Latvia -- Luxembourg - Malta - Monaco - The Netherlands - Norway - Poland - Portugal - Romania - Slovak Republic - Slovenia - Spain - Sweden - Switzerland - Turkey - United Kingdom

What will happen when I return to Europe or the Attitude of European Flying clubs/schools?
We've solved this issue with our partnership with Triple A Flying.

How stable is Harv's Air?
We are as stable as you can get. We've been in operation since 1973 (by the same owner). We own (not the bank) our airplanes, hangers, offices, maintenance division, charter service, and the airport. You do not have to pay anything upfront if you do not wish, you can pay as you go. No matter which flying school you end up at, NEVER pay the entire course fee up front.

I have a ICAO ATPL, and need a JAA ATPL. Or I have a ICAO CPL and need a JAA CPL. What must I do?
